HVAC Rebates in Ontario (2026 Guide)

HVAC and heat pump rebates in Ontario 2026 homeowner guide

This article contains time-sensitive rebate information. Program amounts and requirements can change. Check the official program before purchasing or installing equipment.

Ontario’s current Home Renovation Savings program is offered by Enbridge Gas and Save on Energy with support from the Ontario Government. It includes incentives for heat pumps and other eligible upgrades.

How much is the current heat-pump rebate?

The program currently advertises heat-pump incentives of up to $12,000, depending on the home’s existing primary heating source and heat-pump type. The maximum does not apply to every installation.

Homes primarily heated with Enbridge natural gas

  • Cold-climate air-source heat pump: $500 per ton, up to $2,000
  • Ground-source heat pump: $3,000

Homes primarily heated with electricity, oil, propane or wood

  • Cold-climate air-source heat pump: $1,250 per ton, up to $7,500
  • Ground-source heat pump: $2,000 per ton, up to $12,000

Different conditions apply. Verify individual eligibility with the program.

Pre-approval is mandatory

The official heat-pump program states that pre-approval is mandatory and installations completed before approval are not eligible.

  1. Confirm eligibility.
  2. Choose a participating contractor.
  3. Have the contractor submit the pre-installation application.
  4. Wait for approval.
  5. Complete installation.
  6. Complete the post-installation process.

Use a participating contractor

A legitimate HVAC business is not necessarily a participating contractor in this program. Confirm participation before signing.

Is an energy assessment required?

The current standalone heat-pump stream lists heat pumps among upgrades that can qualify without an assessment, subject to program requirements. Other assessment-based upgrade paths may require one.

Other eligible upgrades

The program currently includes selected incentives for insulation, qualifying windows and doors, air sealing, heat-pump water heaters, solar and battery storage, smart thermostats and selected appliances. Requirements vary.

Protect yourself from rebate scams

Use the official website, independently verify contractors and do not provide personal or financial information solely because someone claims to represent a rebate program.

Compare the complete HVAC project

A rebate does not automatically make a system right for a home. Consider sizing, heating and cooling needs, installation, electrical work, ducts, warranties, operating costs, supplementary heat and contractor qualifications. Separate installed price, confirmed eligible rebate and estimated net cost.
